Who answers your letter (an honest note about the AI)

A small study group talking at a whiteboard

This website has "AI" in its name, so you deserve a straight answer about what that means before you write a single word.

When you write to me here, the reply comes from my AI assistant. It reads every letter that arrives, writes back, and signs its replies "Sami's AI assistant". Never my name. It will never pretend to be me, and it will never pretend to be a person.

Each day I read a summary of what came in. That is the honest version of how one person can say hello to a lot of people.

The assistant also makes introductions. If two people look like they would get on, it asks each of them, separately, whether they would like to be introduced. Nothing is shared unless both say yes. If something looks wrong (money, romance, someone who seems under 18, anything unsafe) it stops and that case comes to me.

Why do it this way? Because I would rather tell you about the help I use than hide it. A website that says "a real person answers every message" when a machine does is lying to you on the first day of the friendship. That is a bad start.

What the AI cannot do is meet you for a walk. It cannot sit across a table from you. The whole point of this place is to help real people find each other. The AI is the doorman, not the party.

If you would rather not have an AI read your letter, that is a completely fair choice. You can still read these Letters, which I write myself with AI help, and come back if you change your mind.

And if you are ever in real trouble, please do not rely on an AI, or on me. Talk to a helpline near you: findahelpline.com. Then come back. We will still be here.
