How to make friends in Dubai
A city where almost everyone came from somewhere else, so almost everyone is looking. Here is how to find each other.
Be My Friend AI members in Dubai so far: fewer than 10.
Always a range, never an exact number. In-person introductions open in a city only when at least 6 checked members there share a language, and only after a free ID and age check; that isn't open anywhere yet. Online introductions are open now.

Most people in Dubai were not born here. That is the city's great advantage for friendship: nearly everyone remembers being new, and many people are open to meeting someone. It is also its great difficulty. People move on after a few years, work hours are long, and it is easy to end up with a social life that is only colleagues, or only people from your own home country.
Friendships in Dubai tend to grow around shared routines: an early-morning run before the heat, a weekend class, a volunteering group, a regular table at the same café. The places below are open to everyone and run regularly. As everywhere, meet new people in busy public places, and respect local laws and customs.
Places to start in Dubai
We are not connected to any of these, and nobody paid to be listed. Links checked on 28 October 2026; times and prices change, so check each website before you go.
Dubai Culture (public libraries and events)
The authority that runs Dubai's public libraries, museums and many cultural events. Libraries host reading sessions, talks and workshops, and are calm, public places to meet someone for the first time.
Volunteers.ae
The UAE national volunteering platform, with opportunities you can sign up for one at a time. Volunteering side by side is one of the easiest ways to meet people outside your own work and nationality.
Dubai Fitness Challenge
A city-wide month of free activity, usually in November, with free classes, community runs and rides. Lots of people do it with new friends. Check the website for this year's dates.
Alserkal Avenue
An arts district in Al Quoz with galleries, talks, screenings and workshops. A good place for people who like long conversations about ideas.
Jameel Arts Centre
A contemporary art centre by Dubai Creek with a library, talks and events. Quiet, beautiful and good for a first meeting.
Expo City Dubai
Parks, walking routes and a regular programme of public events on the former Expo site.
Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding
Cultural meals, tours and talks where you can ask questions about Emirati life and culture. A thoughtful way to meet people from many backgrounds at one table. (Official website. It blocks automated visits, so we checked the address rather than opening it.)
InterNations
A large expat network with events and interest groups in Dubai. Some features are paid. Better for meeting many people quickly than for deep friendship, so follow up one to one. (Official website. It blocks automated visits, so we checked the address rather than opening it.)
Toastmasters (find a club)
Dubai has many public-speaking clubs, meeting weekly or every two weeks. Great for confidence and for meeting the same people regularly.
Meetup
Hiking, book clubs, language exchange and board-game groups. Look for small groups that meet often.
Timeleft
A paid app that books dinners with strangers. Not ours, and we have no deal with them. Check whether it runs in Dubai when you look.
Your first month in Dubai
Week 1: pick one thing near where you live. Dubai is spread out and traffic is real; a weekly plan that needs a 45-minute drive tends to fade. Many communities have their own parks, running tracks and cafés.
Week 2: join one regular group: a running group before work, a Toastmasters club, a volunteering role or a weekend class. The fixed time matters more than the activity.
Weeks 3 and 4: invite one person for coffee after the group. A coffee in Dubai usually costs about AED 15 to AED 25. Cafés in malls and on public promenades are busy, safe places to meet.
Seasons: from roughly October to April the weather is lovely, and the city is full of outdoor events, beach walks and community runs. From June to September it is very hot, so social life moves indoors and many residents travel. During Ramadan, days are quieter and evenings after iftar become very social; it is a lovely time to accept an invitation. If you prefer to meet only women or only men, our form lets you choose that.
Beyond your bubble
It is very easy in Dubai to end up with friends only from your own country, or only from work. Both are fine, and both can leave you lonely when people move on. Mixed groups, like volunteering, Toastmasters, running clubs and classes, are the simplest way to meet people from many backgrounds.
The weekend in the UAE is Saturday and Sunday, with a shorter working day on Friday, so many groups meet on Friday evenings and weekend mornings. In the cooler months, people head out for hikes around Hatta, beach walks and early-morning runs. Cultural visits, like the Jumeirah Mosque tours run by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, are a thoughtful way to learn about the country and meet curious people at the same time.
Whatever you choose, meet new people in busy public places like cafés, malls, parks and libraries, dress and behave in a way that respects local laws, and take your time.
Where Be My Friend AI fits
We are a small, new friendship website, not a big app. You write a letter; Sami's AI assistant writes back (it always says it is an AI); and when there is someone you might get on with, it asks you both. Nothing is shared unless you both say yes. Right now, introductions are online: pen pals, study partners and people to talk ideas with, anywhere you share a language. It's a gentle way to start while you try the places above.
Questions about making friends in Dubai
Is it hard to make friends in Dubai?
It is easier to meet people than in many cities, because so many residents are new. It is harder to keep friends, because people move on. Regular weekly groups and staying in touch online when someone leaves help a lot.
What is free in Dubai for meeting people?
Public library events through Dubai Culture, volunteering through Volunteers.ae, the free classes during the Dubai Fitness Challenge, and many gallery talks at Alserkal Avenue and Jameel Arts Centre.
Can I ask to be introduced only to women, or only to men?
Yes. When you write to Sami you can choose: anyone, women only, or men only. Nothing is pre-ticked, and we respect your choice for every introduction.
Does Be My Friend AI do in-person introductions in Dubai?
Not yet. We are new, and the box at the top of this page shows roughly how many members we have here. In-person introductions open in a city only when at least 6 checked members there share a language, and only after a free ID and age check. Online introductions work now.
Is Be My Friend AI a dating app?
No. It is for friendship only, for adults 18 and over. Romantic approaches lead to removal.
